Dragon Ball Super is gearing up for its next big arc: the Universe Survival. It was casually mentioned at the end of the Champa arc. But there was a very big and dramatic arc in between so it was easy to forget about. What makes me excited about this one? The focus won’t solely be on Goku and Vegeta.
Since the fate of their universe is at stake, Goku and Vegeta are the two most powerful beings but they are still mortal. They tire out and can’t do everything. So to help them out they’re bringing out their most experienced (Master Roshi, Krillin, Tien,Piccolo, Gohan) and powerful (Androids 17 and 18, Buu) to help them out. These characters have mostly been pushed to the side as Super focuses mostly on Goku and Vegeta. That has always been my biggest complaint about the show so far.
It will be interesting to see how this arc plays out as there are no real antagonists. Instead our heroes are more play things for the amusement of gods than anything. You can argue that Zen’o is the antagonist. He and his future self (it’s complicated) are seemingly bored and will destroy the universe of losing teams. Since Super is a midquel show, we know our heroes will survive. But what about the others? Goku and new popular character Hit have an interesting rivalry going but he’s from a different universe.
There are also rumors that this will be the final arc for the show. It would make sense as you really can’t top fighting for your universe’s survival. Either way it will be cool to see where this arc goes come February.
