During the last moments of Marvel Studios panel at San Diego Comic Con 2016, a major announcement was dropped. President of the studio, Kevin Feige announced that Academy Award winning actress Brie Larson had been cast as Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel. Captain Marvel will be the first solo female led superhero movie released by Marvel Studios. The fact that the movie is not due to be released until early 2019 even has larger implications for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
There have been rumors for some time that Carol Danvers will be introduced far earlier than her solo movie. This adds more fuel to the fire. Why cast a big name actress when her movie is not due to be released until two and a half years later? Many assume she might make an appearance in the formerly titled, Avengers: Infinity Wars movie. Those movies are shooting back to back and in November. This would make sense as to her being cast. Only time will tell. This is a good sign though as Brie Larson is a talented actress and this will certainly draw more eyes on the character of Captain Marvel.
